Torrox

Torrox were also unfortunately provided in the 70's and the 80's with the usual multistoried buildings, which surprisingly enjoy a very good reputation by the most of the residents.  Nevertheless Torrox Costa cannot be compared with the Adria or e.g. Torremolinos, because the number of multistoried buildings is still quite limited.  In the last 10 years one did very much for a "healthy tourism" and invested a lot of money into the townscape.  New, structurally very respectably houses and urbanisations arise, however these have at the most 4-6 floors.  Since the motorway to Nerja was finished in the year 2001, Torrox Costa could win an additional flair, because the onerous transit traffic toward Motril and/or Málaga almost dissappeared.  In the two belonging together localities Torrox Pueblo and Torrox Costa live approx. 11,000 inhabitants.

You can see above a picture of the beach and the promenade of Torrox Costa.  The blue flag, which assigns the environment organization FEEE for good water and beach quality, is usually hoisted at the Ferrara beach in Torrox Costa.

At the long promenade there are dozens of restaurants and bars, which invite you to come in. Here most of Spaniards speak German and English in opposite to the inhabitants of the villages in the mountains.  Also in the months of July and August the beach is not hopelessly overcrowded. But those who prefer being calm,  should drive to Motril – very close to Nerja, where there are some beautiful, small, almost lonely beaches at which one can take a bath or relax

Torrox Costa is called the German village.  In opposition to the villages in the mountains or in Nerja, where most the foreigner residents are English, here the German language prevails.  Here one meets all age groups, however it is to be noticed that older humans feel here particularly well.  Even in supermarkets an assistant is proclaimed to help people in German language.

To the topic foreigner said José Pérez García, town councillor for sport and tourism, in January 2001:  "we became in the last 30 years the place with the highest number of German residents on the Spanish mainland.  On the 10.01.2001 the tourism federation of  Torrox decided the institution of an information office for residents, whose staff is linguistically and technically adjusted to the foreign population. The office was temporarily in the tourism office of Torrox Costa, afterwards it was situated in the planned many purpose building in Conejito and renders primarily at the assistance to completion of bureaucratic formalities.

The promenade of  Torrox Costa is not only very broad but also very long. At present leads the promenade from the lighthouse and/or the Monument Balcon Mirador up to the Urbanisation Laguna Beach. On the promenade the streetlights with the blue poles and the round glass bodies are really typical. The promenade not only invite to stroll, but also to jog or skate. It offers itself in addition to sit down into one of the numerous restaurants and cafes and watch the sunsets in the late evening. In most restaurants the waiters, by the way, speak German.

Until recently prevail the German holiday-makers and residents in Torrox-Costa. But since the prices on the Costa del Sol enormously rose and parallel to it the economic development in Germany is declining, more houses and apartments "are back-conquered" by the Spaniards. German taverns, in which one spoke excluding German, disappear gradually.  But there are still many German people here who live pleasantly and happily  in their property.
