El Morche

El Morche, a small coastal village, situated approx. 2 km west of Torrox Costa, belongs to the municipality of Torrox. Some years ago El Morche was still rather a somewhat dreamy place and it gave only few purchase possibilities, however it had already a very beautiful beach section with an ideal place for a promenade. Due to the proximity to Torrox Costa this area was developed very quick - without having there a "boom" of tourists. There are meanwhile some small businesses, in which one can buy the basic products, some bars and it developed a beautiful strand promenade, smaller than the one of Torrox-Costa but anyway a really nice one.

In El Morche approx. 1,600 inhabitants live (together with the coastal range Torcasol are approximately 2,000 inhabitants) mainly on the tourism. The village extends on the left and on the right of the old coastal road N 340. Meanwhile here some hundreds English, Danish and German residents live. Above all, the large beach, fine sand and the proximity to Torrox-Costa make this small village more and more interesting. Therefore the demand for apartments increase day by day in this area.

Who visited Spain, above all the small villages of the tourist centers, already in the 70's or in former times, knows, how the rooms were "simple" at that time. Running water in the rooms was very rare, bathrooms in the rooms were normal only in really good hotels along the coast and the equipment of the guesthouses and hotels was rather poor. Today all that is different!

Besides the Güi watch tower already half demolished, which was built in the year 1577 by the Christians to protect themselves from the Moorish, there are not more places to visit. History went by in El Morche without leaving a trace, in the opposite to other coastal villages. Nevertheless El Morche is to be enjoyed particularly because of its beach and the nice promenade. This is a very recommendable place to spend your holidays far from din. Here the tourists live door to door with the Spaniards and the mentalities grow together and this has changed from the completion of the 5 stars hotel Riu Ferrara at the western edge of Torrox Costa.

The Fair of El Morche takes place annually on 15 August and 16 July the local festivity in honour of Virgen Del Carmen (Saint of the sailors) is celebrated.

As previously mentioned, see the nice strand promenade here (see pictures below). Particularly there is not much activity during the year, except in summer time, when it seems as if all Spanish people had packed all their belongings and they had gone to spend the day at the beach. These pictures were taken up in the first week of September 2001 and in May 2004. - by the way the water was still really warm.

The sand at the public beach of El Morche is quite dark and fine and it is always very well maintained. Several beach bars (Chiringuitos) and showers allow you an all-day stay. Of course one can rent also couches and sunshades, but only during the summer. As there is not yet a lot of tourism during the year, one still comes into the pleasure of a calm sun bathing - without the "Sardine phobia".

If you have liked what you have read about El Morche, we invite you to spend your holidays here, and even to buy a property in this area to live in a total calmness.
